Contractor clashes with merchants over illegal demolition in Shenzhen

On the earning morning of the first day of Chinese New Year, a contractor hired over 500 thugs to surround an integrated market in Longgang District, Shenzhen City, and started demolishing the 3-floor building illegally, when the merchants closed their shops and celebrated the new year with their families. To cover the noise from demolition, the contractor set off the firecrackers. And soon, a part of the integrated market building was razed and the goods in the shops were buried under the rocks.


The local police station sent 100 police officers to stop the illegal demolition after learning the news, but they were besieged by thugs. As many as 200 merchants rushed to the scene too and clashed with the thugs. At the end, when the police mobilized armored vehicles, the riot was put under control. Many people who were injured in the conflict were rushed to the hospital.

Wukan Villagers Suspend Protest
